Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 10, 2026
Dx is built to work on your device. This policy explains what the Dx Downloader browser extension and the Dx Tools website do with your information — which is very little.
Summary
- Files you open in Dx Tools are processed in your browser and are never uploaded.
- The extension looks at a page only when you open it on that page, unless you turn on automatic detection.
- Your settings, download history and daily counter stay on your device.
- Dx has no advertising, sells no data and does not track you across websites.
Dx Tools (website)
PDF, image and media tools run entirely in your browser. Your files are read from your device, processed in memory and the result is saved back to your device. Dx Tools has no upload function and no server receives your files or their content.
The website stores a small daily usage counter and your language choice in your browser's local storage. It contains how many tools you used today, not which files.
Like any website, the hosting provider may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, time and requested page) to operate and protect the service.
Dx Downloader (extension)
When you open the extension on a tab, it reads that page to find media and files you can download: video and audio elements, links to files, subtitles, and the page title used to name files. It does not read other pages, unless you turn on “Detect media automatically” in Settings. That option asks for your permission to access the sites you visit; each page is then checked on your computer while it is open, only to turn the Dx icon blue when media or files appear. The result isn't stored or sent anywhere, and you can turn the option off at any time.
The extension asks for these browser permissions:
- downloads — to save the files you choose and show their progress in your history;
- storage — to keep your settings and history on your device;
- activeTab — to access only the tab you opened Dx on, at that moment;
- scripting — to run the media detector in that tab after you open Dx;
- access to all sites — optional, only if you turn on automatic detection.
Data stored on your device
The extension keeps the following in your browser's extension storage. None of it is sent to Dx:
- settings (download subfolder, “ask where to save”);
- download history: file name, website domain, date, size and status — never the full link;
- Course Mode titles you entered;
- a daily counter of how many downloads you made today;
- a random installation ID created by the extension (not a device fingerprint);
- if you activated Dx Pro: your license key and the signed confirmation from the Dx license server.
Links and credentials
Download links found on a page can contain temporary access tokens. Dx keeps them only in temporary session memory, so a download can start, and removes them when the tab or browser closes. When a website requires it, downloads are made from the page itself with the cookies the browser already sends there. Dx never reads, stores or forwards your cookies, passwords or login sessions.
Analytics
Dx currently collects no analytics. If privacy-friendly usage statistics are added in the future, they will never include your files, the pages you visit or the links you download, and this policy will be updated before they are enabled.
Dx Pro and payments
When Dx Pro becomes available, payments will be handled by a third-party payment provider acting as the merchant of record. Dx will never see or store your card details. To activate Pro, Dx will keep your license key (stored as a hash), the email used for the purchase, the plan and its status, and the random installation ID of the devices where the license is active.
To check your license, the extension and Dx Tools send the license key and the random installation ID to the Dx license server when you activate Pro and about once a day afterwards. Nothing about your browsing, downloads or files is sent.
Deleting your data
Use “Reset Dx on this device” in the extension's Settings, or uninstall the extension, to delete the data it stores. Clearing your browser's site data removes what Dx Tools stores. Files you downloaded or converted stay on your computer until you delete them.
Children
Dx is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If Dx starts handling data differently, this policy will be updated before the change takes effect, and the date at the top will change.
